Today at Hugh Boyd Field, with weather reports suggesting the temperature was going to be a scorcher, RFC was faced with a question – cancel games or play on?
With Richmond being among the cooler places in the Lower Mainland traditionally, and with today’s games being loosely thrown together street soccer instead of intense competitive games, we decided to play on – perhaps the only club in the Lower Mainland to do so, and leave it to parents to decide whether they wanted to be outside or not.
The decision to play was not met with a lack of caution. Steveston Pure Water helped by supplying 6-taps and 100 gallons of fresh water to the club, so players could refill their water bottles (and sometimes dunk their heads) as often as they needed.
As a club, we think with so many players missing games over the last year-plus through Covid restrictions, it didn’t feel right to lose yet another chance to play. As things stood, the kids had a blast, got a good sweat on, and made it home in one piece.
If you’ve been thinking of getting fresh water deliveries to your home, perhaps this is a chance to thank a supporting local business by doing business locally. Voted Richmond’s #1 water shop for several consecutive years, tell Marco you’re from RFC and thank them for their support.
