IMG_3025As the old saying goes: “All good things must come to an end.”

And so it was, this past Saturday at Hugh Boyd field, when the two-month window of Spring Soccer fun came to a close for another fun and successful season.

The official wrap-up was a major event, as 850 players aged U5-U14 were on hand to participate and play in the vibrant hues of their spring team jerseys.

Richmond City Councillor Bill McNulty was in attendance, as was long-time friend and pioneer of Richmond Soccer, Jim Lamond. They joined board members from both RYSA and RGSA to award medals to the Spring Soccer participants.

The kids were entertained by “team wrangler” and long-time Richmond RC coach Ted Lorenz, who led the teams in a friendly competition for the loudest cheers for coaches and parents prior to the medals being awarded.

Canada Safeway sponsors the Spring Soccer program. Representatives Verity McKibbon (Public Affairs Coordinator, BC), and Paul Olsen (First Assistant Manager, No. 2 Rd. Safeway) were there to bring infectious enthusiasm to the medal presentations, and treated the players to drinks and snacks after their final games.

Thank you to Safeway, and to all the many volunteers who contributed toward yet another memorable season of soccer.
